Find stockists without buying a list
Most brands who want to find stockists start with a spreadsheet of shops they know, or a retailer database someone sold them that turns out to be full of closed stores and info@ inboxes. This is one of our free tools and it works the other way round. We start from your product and look for the stores where it would sit well, near you, with a contact email we can reach.
You see real store names, not a sample from somewhere else. That is the point of it: before you spend anything, you can check whether the stores we find are the ones you would want.
What happens when you type your website
- We read your siteYour brand, what you sell and your main products. From that we pick a city and the store types that fit: cafés and delis for a cold brew, bottle shops and bars for a spirit, gift shops for a candle.
- We find stores near youStores of those types in that area that have a contact email. You get the total we found, and the top ten by name, type and neighbourhood.
- We write your first emailOne opening email to the best match, written by the same writer your campaigns use. Short, plain and about why your product suits that store.
What you see, and what stays hidden
- How many stores of those types we found in the area.
- The top ten by their real name, with the store type and area.
- A map of the ten. The pins are moved a little from the real spot, so the map shows the spread, not the street address.
- Each store's email with the name part hidden. You see the domain, so you can tell it is a real business address, and you get the full contact when you sign up.
- The opening email, ready to read.
Change the area or the store types
If we guessed the wrong city, or you want delis rather than cafés, change it. Pick a city, and up to five store types from a list of about sixty, from cafés and specialty grocers to bottle shops, pharmacies, gift shops and pet stores. You can search again three times on each scan.
Our advice is the same as on every call: start with one city and one store type, and go after independents before chains. An independent owner decides on the spot. A chain needs a category review. Our guide to getting your product into cafés shows what that first conversation looks like.
When you sign up
Signing up is free and needs no card. The area, the store types and the email you saw become your first campaign draft, so you do not start again. Nothing is sent until you say so.
From there we buy a separate sending domain for you, so your own domain is never at risk, write a personalised email for every store, follow up, and stop the moment a store replies. The reply lands in your inbox and you take it from there.
The Free plan finds and emails 50 stores a month. Paid covers 500 a month.
Before your first campaign goes out, run your numbers through the wholesale price calculator and get a line sheet ready, because a store that replies will ask for prices.
Where it works
The preview shows stores in New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Canada so far. It suits food, drink and other consumer brands that sell through stores. If you sell somewhere else, get in touch and tell us where.
Questions brands ask
Is it free to see who would stock me?
Yes. Looking is free with no sign-up, and signing up afterwards is free with no card.
Do you email the stores when I look?
No. Nothing is sent from the preview. Your first campaign is a draft until you start it yourself.
Why are the store emails hidden?
You see the store names, types and areas so you can judge the list. The full contact comes with your account, when you sign up.
Is this a retailer database I can download?
No. We find stores that fit your product when you ask, and you reach them through a campaign, with an email written for each store.
What if the stores it shows are wrong for my product?
Change the city or the store types and search again. If your site says little about what you make, the guess will be rougher, so pick the store types yourself.
Do I need samples ready before I start?
Not to look. Before a campaign goes out, have a small sample stock, and only send samples to stores that ask for them.
